Changing with our customer's needs has kept us in the metal fabrication business

Construct and Frame 911 Memorial for City of Broomfield, 2006

Broomfield Sheet Metal (BSM) has been serving the Denver area for more than 50 years. As markets and customer needs have changed, so has our business. Changing with the times keeps BSM current with industry practices and ensures we can continue to provide our customers with the service and products they want and need.

BSM grew one handshake at a time

Mike Capps, President and owner, started with BSM in 1968. Working part-time in the shop cleaning up and doing odd jobs while studying to work as a commercial airplane mechanic, Mike truly learned the business from bottom to top. Mike asked to become full-time with BSM while he looked for a mechanics job in the Denver area. A few months working full-time turned into years and then decades as Mike learned more and more about the business.

In 1976, Mike bought BSM. He saw larger and different markets were opening and moved BSM from primarily a residential heating system focus to include more industrial and commercial HVAC and air quality system, both dust collection and fume control, work.

The move to expand BSM's markets combined with Mike's philosophy of personalized service and treating people fairly led BSM to continue to grow and expand their services.

Changes in customers' needs and tastes grew the custom metal work operation

While the HVAC, air quality, and service areas of BSM's business are provided to customers in Denver and the surrounding area, customers nationwide use BSM's custom metal work.

John Coogan, Vice-President, oversees the custom fabrication operations at BSM. John has worked with BSM for more than 20 years. Playing off the same philosophy used in the HVAC side of the business, John started working with customers needing custom pieces for everything from specialty brackets to stairways and countertops. As metal began to be used more frequently in interior finishing of restaurants and other commercial and public places, BSM's reputation for tackling difficult projects and John's 'We can do that' approach resulted in custom fabrication becoming a more significant portion of BSM's over all business.
